If there's one thing I love more than blogging, it's discovering brand new fashion sites. Recently I was introduced to STYLIGHT - a community of keen fashionistas and budding bloggers. The website helps you get inspired by different looks, introduces you to great new fashion related products and even lets you be interactive and post your own media to create looks - sounds like a dream right?
My first impression of the site is that it's really easy to use. All you have to do is sign up via Facebook or an email address. Once you've made your account, you'll be guided through some basic steps that introduce you to the site’s different features.
The first step is ‘hearting’ looks, this is similar to what other websites like Poly-vore or Lookbook do. Thousands of users will upload photos of themselves wearing different outfits and other members can ‘heart’ or comment on the photo.
The next step is to ‘follow’ different users, again this similar to most fashion sites. When you follow someone they will basically be on your fashion feed, and you’ll be notified every time they post a different look.
Finally you'll be asked to look through the products featured on the site and believe me when I say they have a selection! In fact STYLIGHT's product section of the site is bar far my favourite feature. It's similar to Polyvore in the sense that you can search and find a number of different garments and accessories. However, unlike Polyvore, the navigation bar makes it much easier to search as you can be more brand specific.
I managed to easily find all of my favourite brands on the site, from niche ones like Evil Twin, MINKPINK and Wildfox, to more high end ones like Prada and Mulberry. Also unlike other fashion sites, STYLIGHT will seriously affect your bank balance, as gives you the unique opportunity to buy the product then and there with a simple click.
When it comes to creating your own looks, again the layout is similar to Polyvore, where you'll be given a grid to place different items in. But, there’s a unique edge where users are encouraged to use a variety of different platforms and incorporate them into the look. For example, a user may add a photo of themselves wearing an outfit, next to it they can add a product of what they're wearing or something similar to it, they could then finish off the look by incorporating a song or video. Here's an example of one created by Zena - a trending user:
Other features on the site include your own profile, where you can set a display picture, write a little bit about yourself and share links to your website or blog with other members. Friends can also look you up and follow you.
On your profile page, users can also see the looks you've created and looks that you've 'hearted'. I thought this was a nice touch as it allows you to engage with more members of the community and be introduced to other people's looks and profiles.
Overall I'm really impressed with the site. I think it's a great concept and such a lovely community if you're interested in fashion and need a source of inspiration from other people. I would definitely recommend you visit the site and give it a try for yourself to really see the full potential of STYLIGHT and how it can provide you with hours of fashion fun!
